How To Choose the Right Tractor Tyres

When it comes to tractor tires, you have options. This can be a good or bad thing depending on how easily you find making decisions. Here at Humphreys’, we believe in making it easier on you so we’re going to lay out your options, go through the benefits of each and help you make an educated decision that yields you the most positive results. Simply put we’re going to tell you about tires so that you can get the right set for the jobs you’re trying to get done.

The types of tires:

There are 3 main types of tires that Kubota offers on their tractors. These are turf, worksite (R4s), and ag. They range in functionality and have specific roles for a variety of jobs.

Turf:

The least aggressive of the three, turf tire are named precisely for their functionality. This can be summed up in three words: Mowing Mowing Mowing. With little tread and moderate surface area, these tires are designed to not scalp your yard. So if you’re planning on using your tractor for mowing 80% or more of the time, these are going to be the tires for you.

R4 Composite Worksite:

The middle child in the tire lineup, the R4 is best used on hard ground. Made of a harder composite compound, these tires resist wear on asphalt, concrete and gravel much better than their counterparts. Being wider, they offer a larger surface area, which spreads the overall pounds per square inch. While this means less stress on the tire, you are giving up some traction. These tires are best used in dry conditions and (as their name suggests) worksite environments.

Ag:

The most aggressive tire of the three, the ag tire was built for soft fields and loose dirt. Their narrow design increases traction and their large tread digs into soft surface giving you maximum traction. These tires are recommended for snow work, muddy work, bush hogging and general farm use.

When it comes to selecting the right tires, its important to understand what you’re trying to accomplish with your tires. We make sure to go through the expected work load for the tractor with our customers to make an appropriate recommendation.
